In January and February of 2001 two major earthquakes hit El Salvador leaving hundreds dead and almost a million and a half people homeless. In July of 2001 nine New Covenant “short-term missionaries” were commissioned by New Covenant Church and sent to El Salvador to build two houses and participate in other ministry projects. None of us knew that it was the start of a ministry that continues ten years later.
Over the next 7 years New Covenant provided over 60 homes for those who had lost theirs in the earthquakes. Along the way the ministry expanded to include other kinds of work. These days we work closely with Iglesia Sinai in San Salvador, the capital city. Together with them we are involved in ministry in churches, schools, orphanages, individual homes and street mininstry. We have been able to minister to the spiritual and physical needs of people by teaching, preaching, one-on-one discipling, and by providing food, clothing, and meeting minor medical needs.
We look forward to developing more relationships that will result in the advance of the Kingdom of God for the Glory of God among the people of El Salvador and beyond.
